I’m an educator, author, and racial justice activist who has spent over over three decades working to dismantle racism and uplift the voices of people of color. My work around race and racism has been highlighted on CNN and CNN en Español, and its impact has been documented through international networks such as AlJazeera, TeleSur, and BBC Radio to name a few. In addition, I’ve been featured on national media outlets such as the Nation Magazine, Laura Flanders, and ColorLines Magazine.

I founded AfroResistance—an internationally renowned organization an organization committed to human rights, racial justice and gender justice in the Americas. My work is based on the belief that liberation is possible and that we all have a role to play in dismantling oppression. With this goal in mind, I provide training and resources to educators, community organizers, parents, students—everyone!—so that we can all become change agents in our communities.

I was awarded a Soros Equality Fellowship (2018-2020). I am also a faculty member at New York University Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and at The New School. I am a mother to two amazing children and live between Panama and the Bronx with my partner, two children, elderly parents, and my two pets.
